This one shucks off all pretense that Star Wars has a wonderfully universal appeal and instead unfolds with all the entertainment value of watching somebody else play a video game.
Hank Stuever - Washington Post
The best that can be said about the movie is that it’s harmless and mostly charmless. The Clone Wars is to Star Wars what karaoke is to pop music.
Carrie Rickey - Philadelphia Inquirer
Remember how people talked about the Star Wars prequels like they were the worst movies ever made, when really, come on, they weren’t THAT bad? The Clone Wars actually IS that bad

The reviews are pouring in from the huge media outlets. And it seem that the reviews aren’t so good. But we never listen to what critics have to say. Leave a comment and let us know your thoughts on Star Wars: The Clone Wars…

I went and saw Star Wars: The Clone Wars after work on Friday and I have to say, it didn’t really do a whole lot for me. I think a lot of it is because of the animation. CGI animation can do a lot of things really well. But the one thing they still can’t seem to do is make humans. Obi-Wan and Anakin’s heads looked like they were made out of wood. I could have dealt with that if they wouldn’t have at least preformed well. I have no faith in them to be able to tell a compelling emotional story with their current animation limitations (that being said, the action sequences were pretty awesome). I didn’t think the animation was much better than that shitty CGI cartoon ReBoot which is a little sad because that show is over 10 years old (god I hated that show…).
The whole movie played out like something you would see in a video game. Many times while watching this I felt like I was watching a cut scene in a video game. This is pretty much how the movie plays out:
Dialog explaining what the problem is and what needs to happen.
Scenes of character doing what was just explained.
Twist that causes dramatic tension.
Witty/clever remedy to twist
Dialog talking about what just happened
Repeat 3 or 4 times.
I can’t really say I was disappointed because I went in expecting exactly what I saw. I got to see about 15 min worth of the movie when I was in Japan and they mostly just showed the action bits (which kinda doesn’t surprise me) but what I saw of the dialog I knew I was going to hate it. I guess I just wish they would have went a different rout with the animation. They could have done what Futurama does and do a combination of 2d and 3d animation. Or they could have just chosen a style instead of trying a manga/anime look.
Would I recommend anyone going to the theater and seeing this? No, just wait till its on tv. It wasn’t made to be shown in a theater and you can tell. The production quality is that of a tv show and you will just feel cheated for paying $8+ to see it.
